Advocacies
KPS Foundation meaningfully participates in addressing social issues and concerns, together with other development stakeholders (i.e. the Local Government Units (LGUs), National Government Agencies (NGAs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and Private Business Sector) within the unfolding context of the Social Reform Agenda (RA 8425, Series of 1997). KPS Foundation has, therefore, assisted in the proper and effective implementation of government programs through its advocacy campaigns (e.g. Social Reform and Poverty Alleviation, Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, Childrens’ Emergency Relief and Protection, and others) for the greater benefit of the various serviced sectors.
KPS Foundation helps and supports in the implementation of government programs through its advocacy campaigns and programs:
- Social Reform and Poverty Alleviation Act (Republic Act 8425)
- Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act (Republic Act 9262)
- Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act (Republic Act 10121)
- Children’s Emergency Relief and Protection Act (Republic Act 10821)
- Magna Carta of the Poor Act (Republic Act 11291)
Bantay Banay — Anti-VAWC Campaign
Since 1999, KPS has been actively involved in the campaign to protect women and children from all forms of violence. The campaign involved a city-wide inter-agency committee composed of LGUs, NGOs, POs, and NGAs. As lead NGO in General Santos City of the Bantay Banay (Family Watch) Project, which originally started as an anti-domestic violence project of Lihok Pilipina Foundation in Cebu City sometime in 1992, KPS had the rare chance of helping build community structures to protect community women and their children against all forms of violence in coordination with government agencies. Within the last three years (2006-2009), the Bantay Banay Program underwent the process of developing the Bantay Banay Learning Center and the Bantay Banay Grassroots Academy, which include the healing of healers and community documentation of various anti-VAWC areas. Within the year also, KPS Foundation was able to connect its gender initiatives and of grassroots women with the Houairou Commission and GROOTS International based in New York City.
