Abrea Village in Polomolok, South Cotabato, is on the brink of a transformative change, thanks to the generous funding from the Kalahi-CIDDS program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). This support will materialize as a brand-new, state-of-the-art Day Care Center, valued at 1.7 million pesos, a joint initiative involving the municipal and barangay LGUs. The imminent construction of this center stands as a significant investment in the future of Abrea Village, set to create a safe and nurturing haven for the community’s youngest members.
Kalahi-CIDSS, or the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services, stands as a flagship poverty alleviation program within the Philippines, led by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). Employing the community-driven development (CDD) approach, recognized globally for its efficacy in fostering service delivery, poverty reduction, and good governance outcomes, the program has been instrumental in making this initiative a reality.
Commencing construction in September 2023, the Day Care Center is anticipated to reach completion by year-end, marking a milestone in Abrea Village’s progress. This establishment is not merely a structure but a beacon of hope for the community, particularly for numerous low-income families unable to afford private preschool education for their children. The center’s emergence promises to extend the invaluable opportunity of quality early childhood education and essential services, empowering children with the foundational skills and knowledge crucial for their academic and lifelong success.
The genesis of Abrea Village traces back to March 2016 when Engr. Allan Louie Abrea made a determined decision to partition his land into affordable and accessible residences for low-income families. His collaboration with the KPS Foundation resulted in the development of this socialized housing project, and the community was fittingly named in honor of his benevolence and noble aspirations.
Gratitude is owed to the instrumental figures whose dedication and support have propelled this vision forward. Heartfelt thanks extend to the municipal mayor, Hon. Bernie D. Palencia, the municipal council, as well as Cannery Site’s barangay captain, Hon. Jose P. Esposado, Sr., and his barangay council, whose unwavering support has been instrumental in this endeavor.
The establishment of a homeowners’ organization within Abrea Village marks an important step toward unified coordination, strengthening the community’s collaborative efforts. This unity not only ensures the success of the Day Care Center but also sets the stage for forthcoming developmental projects aimed at enhancing the community’s welfare.
In celebration of this milestone, congratulations are in order for Abrea Village, and commendations are extended to the municipal and barangay LGUs of Polomolok for their dedication and commitment to this significant cause.
